the birdfeeder

I sat outside by this birdfeeder for a spell waiting for the hummingbirds to grace me with their presence in the nearby flowers. Turns out, it was not such a great plan, but it was fun to watch the other birds.

I was surprised the first time this guy walked up to the birdfeeder. I did have my camera handy though.

I did see the hummingbirds a few times, although they tended to stick around much better when my camera was not in hand.

Redwoods

Someone asked to see my Redwood pictures from a few years back, and I realized that they weren't on this blog to share easily, so I decided to fix that. I want to go back and take better pictures one day...with a wide angle lens and without a 2 year-old. The trees were pretty amazing, and I don't think my photos adequately reflect their grandeur.

Somehow we convinced the uncooperative 2 year-old to walk into the tree.

Hunting, with the Cat

I think this is the first time I've really taken butterfly pictures; it is something I've been meaning to do, the problem so far has been finding the butterflies at an opportune time.

I think this is a House Finch.

The Cat was pretty excited to have someone hunting the same creatures as it was. I guess it thought I was going to be helpful?

Orange Flower that is everywhere

I had my 50mm lens on already, so I used it on a flower, and was immediately disappointed. This was taken at the minimum focal distance for that lens.

Macro lens, as close as it can get, with essentially the same settings (although I don't love the composition on this one).
