300mm bugs

While I didn't get any stellar shots chasing this bumblebee around the other day with my 300mm lens, it certainly was nice to be farther back from the bugger than I can be with my macro lens. I think with a little practice this lens would be great for certain bugs.

Great blue heron

300mm isn't really a long enough lens for birds...unless you can get pretty close to the bird.

It's a girl!

I bought this lupine last year, and I assumed it would be purple. The man selling it said that was a good bet, and I'd always seen purple lupine growing up, so my expectations were set. The plant kept me in suspense for nearly a year before it finally bloomed and revealed its secret: pink!

Northern Flicker

We've had a couple of woodpeckers in the neighborhood excavating a potential nest cavity this week. I saw the male working on it last spring, but then he appeared to abandon it. The project was given new life this spring, but again, I wonder if the site will be abandoned; I saw a squirrel poking its rodent face out of the hollow today.

the last Tulips of the Season?

I've shared quite a few tulip photos this spring, and while I feel like these are just "more of the same," I am still posting them. They are different flowers at least.
