Fall Patterns in The Yard

Day Lilies; They were here when we moved in.

100mm, f/13, 1/100, 5000 ISO [Day 175/366]

Rhododendron leaf; The original plant died, and we replaced it with the same. This one is healthy, really it is.

100mm, f/9.0, 1/100, 500 ISO [Day 177/366]

Lupine leaf; I planted this one this past spring. While technically still alive, it looks to have some kind of mildew/fungus/mold thing going on with its leaves.

100mm, f/9.0, 1/250, 2000 ISO [Day 179/366]

A rose-cutting; waiting to be planted in the yard. Three of these were left in our yard by a well-meaning neighbor. I'm pretty sure I can kill them off next year. My impression is that roses need special attention, which they won't be getting from me.

100mm, f/14, 1/100, 2000 ISO [Day 180/366]

100mm, f/11, 1/100, 2000 ISO [Day 180/366]

Honey Locust tree; we replaced a 70+ year-old rotten Black Locust tree with this sapling last summer. The new tree has adjusted well.

100mm, f/11, 1/125, 800 ISO [Day 182/366]

Forget-me-Not leaf; a welcome gift from a departing co-worker that luckily appears to be thriving in its new home.

[if you're curious, like I was, how the scene would look in B/W, here's your answer]

Pumpkin Parade

The official start of Pumpkin Month (October) is this Saturday; here's the welcoming committee!

Dogs' best Friend

The view for an average sized city-dog [I imagine].

I admit to searching for the most derelict appearing fire hydrant around.

Five Legs

Purple and Orange Starfish, taken really near sunrise, which happened to coincide with the low tide. The light was crummy so early, and a morning mist was rolling in to further dampen the scene. As the light theoretically improved, the mist thickened, and the tide started coming in. Boo.

100mm, f/7.1, 1/100, 320 ISO [Day 165/366]

And back again, this time near Sunset. Low tide was just after sunset, meaning of course, more sub-optimal lighting conditions to work with.

Tripod, 100mm, f/7.1, 1/6, 100 ISO [Day 165/366]

I brought my tripod down this time for a change from the high ISO shots from the morning.

Tripod, 100mm, f/22, 4.0 sec, 100 ISO [Day 165/366]

I was able to get much better depth of field. Luckily Starfish don't move much. Still, should have probably upped my ISO a little from 100 to get a more reasonable shutter on some of these.

Dirty Dots

Time to get the sensor cleaned on my camera. I'm sick of erasing spots.

Rose and Water

It was a rainy weekend, with scattered spots of light. When the light patches disappear it is winter. I'm getting ahead of things though; it isn't even technically fall yet.

[Rose Mallow, Hibiscus moscheutos]

100mm, f/6.3, 1/100, 250 ISO [Day 169/366]

I have a weakness for chocolate, ice cream, and rain droplets on leaves.

100mm, f/16, 1/100, 640 ISO [Day 170/366]

Besides the water droplets, I like the color change on this leaf.

The view, without leaving the house

The house we rented had an amazing view from both balconies and the patio. All of these shots were taken without setting foot in the sand.

100mm, f/20, 1/100, 100 ISO [Day 166/366]

Tripod, 100mm, f/20, 10.0 sec, 100 ISO [Day 166/366]

Around 8am, about an hour after sun-up. We climbed to the top of that sand dune. There's a white SUV on the beach, just above my watermark, that may provide a sense of scale.

28mm, f/10, 1/160, 400 ISO [Day 168/366]

The mist rolls in fast, this was taken only 5 minutes after the previous picture. Luckily, the fog can leave just as fast as it comes in.

50mm, f/10, 1/125, 400 ISO [Day 168/366]

The view from the hottub, nearing sunset.

66mm, f/7.1, 1/160, 400 ISO [Day 167/366]

The backside of the hottub was flanked by potted plants in odd hues; yes, they're fake.

64mm, f/4.5, 1/500, 250 ISO [Day 164/366]

My favorite sunset of the trip- I like how the colors changed as the sun sank, so I included lots of shots. As I was taking these photos, the playback image matched the scene so well that I didn't tinker with the colors at all after the fact.
